Chapter 15 Is Finished with Editing

Updated: Sep 13, 2019

Good morning, and welcome to another edition of the Five Kingdoms Blogosphere!!! I am super excited because of the progress I have made on Book 4. First and foremost, it has been 34 days since I finished the writing process on "Hadran Corvis of Farfell" and I started editing almost immediately because I literally couldn't wait to get started going back through and seeing the steps I took to start the story and everything in between to get the story to its completion. I've been fueled with an incredible sense of creativity that normally on overtakes me when I'm in college and studying my butt off for semester after semester. As hard as this book was to find a true direction, I have really enjoyed what I've been working on, and as I have, other parts of my mind have triggered and I've got ideas for what I am going to and - and would like to - work on next.

Second, I finished editing the first ten chapters of the book on July 31st, only 26 days after finishing the writing... that's a lot of edits in a short amount of time. I think it's pretty impressive. However, I find it even more impressive that I've added an additional five chapters of edits in just the first nine days of August. I'm not as busy, and that may have a lot to do with it, but I still feel like this is a huge accomplishment. I hadn't even realized how much work I've put into the editing until I looked back at the time stamps on the individual document files.

Third, Chapter 15 has been the longest chapter so far. In standard document pagination, once the text was double-spaced to make room for my edits, the document for this chapter came out to 31 pages total. I'm sure there are going to be chapters that come up in the near future that are longer - or will become longer - but for now, that is where I am at with the writing on this book. A lot happens in Chapter 15; I won't give anything away, but I find it kind of interesting how the events in the life of the main character of this book mirrors his brother's life events in Book 2... oh wait... did I just give out a SPOILER?!? Who is it in Book 2 that has a brother, I wonder. You can't see my face, but I've got a mischievous grin on my face.

Fourth, and by far the most important thing I want to share about the editing on Book 4: I was working on the edits for Chapter 15 as my son - who just turned 20 months yesterday - crawled up into my arms, snuggled against me, and drifted off into nap time. He hasn't been feeling 100% and I think he' getting ready for a growth spurt, so I can only imagine how both of those effect his sleep cycle.

There is more to come as the editing process continues; I'll keep you posted.
