The Fire Flyers
Drách Asár, who was originally called Alád-Voh or Firewing, created the Dragons. He took the form of the first Fire Flyer, a majestic white and gold-scaled beast with wings spanning the length of a battleship and a body as powerful as a mountain. He used his control over the elements to forge children from Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water, giving them traces of his power to wield these elements. Over time, successive generations and interbreeding resulted in more diverse Dragons, though at the cost of concentrated forms of elemental magic. Those strong enough in a particular element became elders while Alád-Voh instituted the formation of the Dragon Council to govern his creations.
Eventually, Alád-Voh took a Dragon mate made by the Kingfather specifically for him and sired true hatchlings of his own. Alád-Voh and his mate Adel-Nuí performed their skyward dance of love, which became the ancient explanation for the Sun and the Moon moving through the heavens.
Endangered Species
During Menonias' reign and the travesties of the Menonian Wars, Adel-Nuí as well as her three hatchlings were killed during Artorma's raid on the ancient Nests, located in what is now known as the Sovereign Empire of Ronso. The discovery of the crime broke Alád-Voh's heart. He then transubstantiated into a Human and became the founding leader of the Order of the Prómasúst, spending his days as a priest, using his heavenly immortality to train generations of monks.
With the exception of the Dragon Counsel and the Elders, most Fire Flyers were killed through the use of magic and Dragonsbane poisoning. The survivors hid, keeping themselves secluded in their various domains. While Avánus locked himself away in the Temple of Orman to guard the separated spirit of J'Hadahiri-N'eth-Bani, sisters Témád and Pyrius hid in the Dead Island and Izdefúche respectively; Græko erected his monolith in Pasco-Dál and Belaryn hid away in his citadel, locking the doors for more than two centuries. The Counsel stowed themselves underground, but even they fell victim to their own arrogance and biases; in rejecting Ith after his forced transformation from Dragon to Viper, his anger and hatred became their undoing when he absorbed their spirits into the Eye of Souls.
Hope For the Future
An indeterminate amount of time before the rise of Menonias' heirs, an egg was laid. It came with a blessing and a prophecy: It was intended to be bound to a Human - eventually Gavin Lake of Pasco-Dál - and hatched. The hatchling, Nex, was impaired, a shard of his shell lodged into his throat. But he learned to speak with his mind. He was placed into a hibernative state to be given to Gavin's biological parents before his birth. It remained with him even after his being placed into the Oridos Orphanage. And while Nex sacrificed himself during the battle over the Three-Sands Desert, his body and part of his essence were fused with the spirit of Princess Amara and the energies of the fallen demon locked in the Temple of Orman to create a new egg and a new Dragon, names Speru whose name means "hope" so that she could be bonded with Gavin when the time came.
